Preliminary Road and Drainage Design – whether developing a drawing set in preparation for a Design & Construct contract, or refining a concept design to a level of detail suitable to undertake accurate cost analysis, impact assessment and reporting for funding approvals, the preliminary design stage allows the client access to a design solution that, while remaining open to possible future innovation, presents a cost effective and ultimately feasible design within the defined project scope and constraints. To avoid costly rework or contractual complications, preliminary designs present a refined and practical solution that forms the basis of the detailed design stage. Detailed Road and Drainage Design – time to get building? Detailed design is the final stage in the road design process, leading toward a construction (or “Issued for Construction” – IFC) drawing set that allows set-out and construction of a given project, and surveillance and quality assessment during construction. The detailed design includes every final detail of the road and road related infrastructure, and includes the full suite of design drawings necessary for construction, surveillance and quality management. While there is a comparatively large number of design tasks and drawings to previous design stages, a detailed design based on sound concept and preliminary design stages should be a straight forward design process, with little to no surprises. Starting detailed design with a poor preliminary or concept design may present a range of unforeseen issues – we’re always pleased to meet and discuss the requirements of detailed design for any project that we have not previously been involved in.
